Thompson family

My paternal grandfather and at least four of his brothers served in the First World War. John Alfred Thompson ( picture on left) died from wounds received at Gallipoli. My grandfather served in Palestine as a sniper with the Auckland Mounted Rifles. He taught his horse to lie down and he would shoot from the cover it provided. That's him in the centre photo with a less co-operative camel (with thanks to Phillip Thompson for this photo).
